Working Memberships

First Step: Orientation

We offer orientations for each of our available Working Memberships. Please be ready to pay for a membership at your orientation and ready to work that month — the procedures will be fresh in your mind!

BW Chemistry
Individuals must have previous darkroom experience at the post-high school level, working alone and setting up / breaking down chemistry. Those who only have college experience should have at least two semesters of coursework that includes mixing chemistry for a group lab setting. We offer demo sessions on both print and film for a hands-on refresher. Those who do not have darkroom experience, chemistry-mixing experience, or want a more in-depth refresher, can sign up for Photo 101 to be able to use the darkroom on their own. This includes both print and film chemistry.

Color Print Chemistry
Individuals must have previous experience working with an RA-4 color processor. Those who do not have this experience can sign up for the Analog Color Class. Basic BW darkroom experience is required as well.

Color Film Chemistry
Individuals must have previous experience developing color film with a Jobo processor. The C-41 Jobo Demo Session serves as the orientation for developing with our Jobo, at a cost of $30. Those who do not have color film experience should take the Intro to Color Darkroom Class. At the time of the Jobo session, please be prepared to pay for a Color Film or Color Print Membership, as well the cost of developing your film. Color film rates are: $5/35mm roll, $7/120 or 220 roll, $12 to run the 4×5 tank (10 sheets max).

BW and Color Print Chemistry
Those wanting to use both BW and Color may sign up for both processes at a reduced rate. At this time, individuals must attend separate orientation sessions for BW and Color.

Digital Scanner / Printer
Individuals should have previous digital experience to use our Epson 2200 printer and Canon scanner. You may bring your own ink for the printer, or pay by the print using darkroom inks (50 cents per inch by longest dimension). The cost of chemical memberships includes access to our digital facilities.

Our current orientation schedule is:

BW Chemistry Orientation: Tuesdays 3 and 4pm (check calendar to confirm)
Digital Orientation: Tuesdays 3 and 4pm
Color Print Chemistry Orientation: By appointment
Color Film Chemistry Orientation (C-41 Jobo Demo Session): By appointment

The sessions are first-come, first-served -- we don't run chemistry and digital sessions in the same hour. You will be contacted by Jason Scott Furr to set up a Color orientation date and time.
